Located in historic Harrodsburg, Kentucky's first settlement (1774), Sims Auction has become a part of that history. The late Buster Sims started the auction business in 1963. The business did both auctions and real estate brokerage from the beginning and was licensed in both Kentucky and Tennessee. Buster's sons, Genie and Roger now continue the tradition of combining auctions and real estate as they have for 45 years. Prior to 1993 when they inherited the auction business which they were always a part of, both Genie and Roger had well-established outside careers. Genie with a masters in education had a distinguished 33 year career as teacher, coach, and school administrator. For ten years, Genie successfully balanced the business with his educational commitments, and in 2003 he retired to devote full-time to the auction business. Likewise, Roger will soon devote full-time to the business when he retires from a long career with the Kentucky Cabinet of Human Resources. Genie is also a licensed funeral director and continues an active role in that business. Genie and Roger Sims are active members in the Kentucky Auctioneer's Association and Mercer County Chamber of Commerce. Genie is also a member of the National Auctioneer's Association.
With so many diverse roles to fulfill it has been necessary to run the most efficient and organized auction business possible as well as to rely on key people such as Toni Sims (cashier), Joseph R. McClellan (clerk), and Dale Peavler (ring man). SOLD II is proud to have played a part in enabling the Sims brothers to be involved in so many roles and keep their auction business under control. Genie stated it best:
As long time users of SOLD II, Sims Auction knows that their business benefits from keeping the programs up to date and relying upon SOLD II as a technical support partner. Recently, they purchased SOLD II's Plug_'n_Go with wireless networking to gain maximum mobility and flexibility. When asked why they had moved to Plug 'n Go, Genie responded: “It's much better for us because of its portability, ease of use, and technical support use.” Sims Auction and its principals are a true American story. When asked what philosophy or strategy explained their success in so many realms, Genie's final comment summed it up best: “Our parents taught us at an early age: 'live and work by the Golden Rule.' That has been our policy from day one.”
